Mary Louise "Granny" Greer

Mary Louise “Granny” Burgess Greer, age 84, of Brandenburg, KY passed away at home on Thursday, February 29, 2024 with her family by her side.

 

She was born to Clyde and Agnes Crawford Burgess on July 18, 1939 in Oolite, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, William Jeffrey Greer; and a special friend, Betty Singleton. On August 4, 1956 Mary and Maurice “Thumb” Greer were married.  After 47 years of marriage “Thumb” passed away on September 25, 2003.

 

Mary was a member of Brandenburg United Methodist Church. She spent 35 years serving as a window clerk at the Ft. Knox Post Office, retiring in May of 2003. After retiring, she became a ‘Nanny’ a year later to the Martin and Tara Powers family for over thirteen years. She was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel.

 

“Granny” truly loved her children, grand-children, great-grand-children, and the Powers family. Preparing meals for them and spending time with them was her biggest joy! Mary was “Granny” to everyone she encountered!

 

She is survived by her loving children, Sandy (Doug) Howard, Karen (Lamar) Hager and Jeff “Frog” Greer; her grand-children, Barrett (Alison) Howard, Brittney (Scott) Schwertly, Nathan (Erica) Hager, Ali (Travis) Hackert, JB (Emily) Greer and Sarah Greer; her great-grand-children, Abby, Emma, and Spencer Howard, Stone, Rosie, and Isla Schwertly, Jade, Marlee, Josiah, and Layla Hager, and Grady, Griffin, and Grant Hackert; her sister, Loretta Burgess; and her special friends, Pat Ditto, Patsy Gerkins, Jane Warford and Esther Sipes.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home from 1-8:00 P.M.  Visitation will continue on Thursday, after 10:00 A.M. from the Brandenburg United Methodist Church Sanctuary (215 W. Broadway, Brandenburg, KY 40108).

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 12:00 Noon from the Brandenburg United Methodist Church Sanctuary, with Rev. Jim Robinson officiating, burial will follow next to her husband in Cap Anderson cemetery.
