David Monroe Cox, born December 8, 1937, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a legacy of hard work, and a family who will forever cherish the love he gave so freely. David was a man of many talents and trades. Throughout his life, he worked as a potter at Louisville Stoneware, served as a manager at Houchen’s, and built houses with his own hands. There was truly little David could not do.

He was a hardworking man who took pride in his work, and his skills, determination, and willingness to lend a helping hand were just a few of the qualities that made him special. Alongside his work, David was a dedicated member of Irvington Masonic Lodge #868. Above all, David was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to his beloved wife, Brenda, with whom he shared 34 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and memories that will be treasured for generations. David was a loving father, Papa, and Grandpa to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

David’s family was his pride and joy, and his love extended far beyond words. Whether through the lessons he taught, the stories he shared, or simply the comfort of having him nearby, David made an impact on the lives of those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family forever. David was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings who had gone before him, and he now joins those loved ones who were waiting to welcome him home.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, and his children: Deb (Jeff) Gutermuth; of Irvington; Susan (Jeff) Thornhill;  of Irvington; Mike (Trish) Cox; of Irvington; Bob (Kim) Cox and of Columbus, Indiana; Katrina (Scott) Benham of Guston; and Richard (Lisa) McCue of Jeffersonville. He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his memory forward. David's life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and the importance of family. He will be remembered as a man who could build a house, master a trade, and, most importantly, help build a family bound together by love. Though his hands may no longer work, the things he built, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will remain.

David’s family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through every generation that follows him. You were loved more than words can say, and you will be missed more than words can express. Your work here is done, but your love will live on forever in the hearts of those you leave behind. Forever loved. Forever remembered.
