Arthur Dale Cox, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday September 25, 2024 at his home surrounded by love and his two daughters.
Dale was born in Clarksburg, WV on January 14, 1949 to Arthur Dale Cox, Sr. and Isabel Carmina Lopez Cox. As Dale’s father was in the military, the family had two tours of duty to Fort Knox and chose to live in Flaherty, KY. Dale began first grade at Flaherty Elementary and was a proud graduate of Flaherty High School, Class of 1967. One of Dale’s fondest memories was playing basketball for the Flaherty Blue Devils.
Dale joined the US Army in 1968 and served during the Vietnam War time, and was a proud US Veteran. He had Army assignments in Texas and Maryland before returning home to Flaherty. He then became a civil servant working at Fort Knox for several years. He then began to work as a Federal employee who spent many years working at the local, regional, and national levels of the Federal union, American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), before retiring in 2019. Dale was a very proud and dedicated union leader and member/brother.
Dale received a liver transplant from the University of Kentucky Organ Transplant Center in 2008 and enjoyed 16 bonus years of life, as a transplant recipient.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur Dale Cox, Sr., and Isabel Cox; his brother, Donnie Joe Cox, his granddaughter, Madisyn Taylor Gardner, and his loving wife Deborah Frakes Cox of 24 years.
He is survived by all three of his daughters: Tracy (Jim) Waters, Dawn (Alex) Jones, and Heather Cox; Grandchildren Arianna Graham (Dillyn), Ashlyn Waters, Alexis Waters, Kaitlyn Hodge; and sisters Debra (Ron) Zedalis and Tamya (Bryan) Jones. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, several great grandchildren, his dearly loved pets, Layla and Cassie and many friends.
Dale was small in stature but big in heart and will be remembered as passionate about his family, beloved pets, UK Wildcats, Federal employees, union workers, and politics. He will be missed by many, but never forgotten by the ones who loved him.
Visitation will be at Nelson-Edelen Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove on Wednesday, October 2, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral service is Thursday, October 3, at Nelson-Edelen Bennett Funeral Home with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m and service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow service at the Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff Ky.
