Velma Cora Howard Mattingly, age 92, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
She was born on February 15, 1934 in Barbourville, KY daughter of the late Sara Jarvis Black and Charles Carson Black. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, G.B. Howard; sister, Helen Marie (Tom) Fairchild; and brothers, James (Alice) Black and Dean Black.
Velma was a former member of Payneville Baptist Church and worked at IGA in Brandenburg for many years. She loved to garden and can, but most of all she loved her grandchildren and family.
She is survived by her loving husband, James Leroy Mattingly; daughter, Kay (Richard) Popham; grandchildren, Jamie (Courtney) Popham, Matthew (Kristi) Popham, Natalie (Crystal Lambright) Popham, and Brittney (Derrick) Henning; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Gracie, Jackson, Taylor, Jesse, Lucas, Hank, Liz, Wes, Evie, Ellie, and Elijah; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 6-8:00 P.M. and Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from 9:00-12:00 P.M.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Bobby Sharp officiating, burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mt. Washington, KY.
