Thomas Clive “Tom” Mahoney, 89, of Elizabethtown, KY and formerly of Louisville, Kentucky passed away Friday, January 9, 2026. Tom graduated from Flaget High School in Louisville, where he was a star pitcher for the school’s baseball team.
Postponing college because of his father’s illness, Tom began his business career at just 17 years old, managing his dad’s coal company to support his family. After many semesters at night school, Tom graduated from University of Louisville with an MBA degree and spent most of his career in business as Vice President of Human Resources at Crucible Steele. After his retirement he dedicated his time and energy to helping others at the St. Vincent de Paul charity in Elizabethtown, KY. Having lived in Elizabethtown for many years, Tom loved his community and St. James Catholic Church, where he was a devoted parishioner for over 60 years. Tom’s leisurely pursuits included playing golf, negotiating excellent deals at flea markets, arguing politics, enjoying University of Kentucky ball games, and, especially, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Julian Mahoney and Agnes Kippes Mahoney; siblings, Brother Julius “Paul” Mahoney, S.F.X, Joseph Norbert Mahoney (Silvia), Mary Agnes Mahoney, S. L., Lloyd Dennis Mahoney (Vickey), David Edward Mahoney; his first wife, Kathleen Rose Mahoney; his daughter, Tracy M. Campbell.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Ann Thomas Mahoney; children, Michael J. Mahoney (Betsy), Mark J. Mahoney (Carla), Tara M. Campbell (Richard), Tim W. Thomas (Debbie); his sister, Carol Ann Mattingly (Bill); grandchildren, Andrew Mahoney (Sarah), Tom Campbell (Diane), Jeremy Campbell, Kathleen Monich (Alex), Michael Campbell (Caroline), Matthew Campbell (Sheena), Jenna Campbell, Kimberly Hawkins (Troy), Melissa Canavera (Nathan); great grandchildren, Madison Mahoney, Olivia Mahoney, Caroline Mahoney, Jack Mahoney, Calvin Campbell, Sophia Monich, Luca Monich, Clara Campbell, Tommy Campbell, Kensington Campbell, Clayton Campbell, Isabella Yates, William Yates, Wade Yates, Weston Yates, Waryck Yates, Cru Canavera, Coy Canavera, Cora Canavera; eight nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Episcopal Church Home for their care and concern for Tom and Ann.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, January 12, 2026 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral and Cremation Care, 3800 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at St. James Catholic Church, 307 W Dixie Ave, Elizabethtown, KY 42701.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at St. James Catholic Church, 307 W Dixie Ave, Elizabethtown, KY 42701. Burial will follow at the St. James Cemetery, Elizabethtown, KY.
Memorials may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or to the Alzheimer's Association.
