Mr. Steven Douglas “Steve” Powell, of Breckinridge County, Kentucky, passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was born on November 25, 1953, the son of Frank and Sylvia Norris Powell.
Steve proudly served his community as a dedicated firefighter and retired as Fire Chief at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Throughout his career, he earned the respect of those beside him through his steady leadership, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to protecting others. Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes, and his presence left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Outside of his service, Steve found great joy on the water. He loved fishing both competitively and recreationally, spending countless peaceful hours doing what brought him happiness and connection with friends and fellow anglers alike.
Above all else, Steve treasured time spent with his beloved wife, Jeanne, and his faithful dog, Abby. Whether enjoying quiet moments at home or simple days together, those closest to him knew the depth of his love, loyalty, and devotion.
Steve will be remembered for his humble spirit, steadfast character, and the calm strength he carried throughout his life. He meant the world to those who knew him best, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Steve is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jeanne; his son, Steven (Kristin); his sisters, Sharon and Susan (Tim); his brother, Frank; his step sons, Curt (Shannon) Barley, Chris (Sherry) Barley; and numerous step grand and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM EDT, on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home, with Rev. Andrew Rupherd officiating. Burial will follow in Custer Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM EDT on Sunday.
