hilip Wayne Carr, Sr., age 71, of Custer, KY, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on January 9, 1954, in Louisville, KY, son of the late Howard Eugene Carr and Edna Mae Veteto Carr.
Philip, lovingly called Papaw or Papaw G by his grandbabies, was something special. He worked in every area of Breckinridge Memorial Hospital, always lending a helping hand when needed. His love and desire for helping people was magnified through his work in healthcare and his military service with the Marine Corps. Philip never slowed down, even when he didn’t feel his best. Whether it was farming tobacco, gardening, fishing, making whiskey barrels, painting houses, or riding around on his mower with his grandkids, he never stopped moving. He had a great sense of humor, was always laughing, and he had a way of making you feel special any time you were with him. He had strong hands, but his heart was tender and full of unconditional love. Philip was a devoted husband, father, brother, Papaw, uncle, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kathy Carr; children, Philip W. (Linda) Carr, Jr. of Westview, KY, Lisa (David) Compton of Custer, KY, Laura (Del) Woods of Custer, and Aaron (Jennifer) Carr of Garfield, KY; sisters, Norma Hays, Linda Jennings, Joyce Harrod, Karen (Eddie) Hord, Janey Slayton, Rita Lasko, and Tina Carr; brother, Rodney (Cathy) Carr; grandchildren, Jonathan Kiper, Elizabeth Kiper, Sydney Compton, Albert Compton, Joey (Becca) Compton, Julianne (Aaron) Hayes, Timothydel Woods, Johnny Woods, Ben Carr, and Mia Carr; great-grandchildren, Carter Compton, Reese Compton, Rowan Compton, Keith Thomas, Ian Woods, Emberlyn Woods (aka Bob); two more great-grandbabies on the way, Savannah Hayes and Baby Girl Woods; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been chosen by the family and Alexander Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at the Custer Masonic Lodge (Junction of 690 & 86, Custer, Kentucky 40115) on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. EDT.
