Mazie Patricia "Pat" (Mayes) Hicks

Mrs. Mazie Patricia “Pat” Hicks, age 79, of Ekron, KY, passed away at her residence on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born on June 11, 1944, in Louisville, KY. Mrs. Hicks worked as a medical secretary for Ireland Army Hospital, where she later retired. She was a devout member of Salem Baptist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel. Most importantly, she devoted her whole life to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by her father, who died at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, Peter Patrick Mayes; her mother and stepfather, Viriginia K. (Siers) and J. W. Ivey, Jr.; her first husband, who died serving during the Vietnam war, 1st Lt. William Busby; two brothers, Bob Raymer and Michael Mayes; and her sister, Alma R. Clark. She is survived by her loving husband, Garry Hicks, Sr.; her three children, Michelle Johnston and her husband, David, and his daughter and grandson, Jessica and Aiden, Renee Hicks, and Garry Hicks, Jr. and his wife, Kim; five grandchildren, Tara Drexler and her husband, Nick, Danielle Loiacano and her husband, Peter, Logan Hicks and his wife, Courtney, Elizabeth Martin and Sydney Martin; and five great grandchildren, Dare, Guy and Anabel Drexler, Brooks Hicks and Bo Loiacano.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. William “Happy” Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in Garnettsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home and from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Friday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Salem Baptist Church Building Fund or to Hosparus of Central Kentucky.
