Mrs. Mary Dorothy Taylor, age 87, of Vine Grove, KY, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. Mrs. Taylor was born on February 27, 1936, the daughter of Richard Thomas, Sr. and Laura Lee (Washington) Ditto.
Mrs. Taylor was affectionately known as Aunt Doris to all who knew her. In her youth, she was a student at the Lincoln Institute Boarding School/Day School, which was a school for young black children to attend high school, which was not allowed in the rural areas of Kentucky. Mrs. Taylor was an active alumni member and was still serving as treasurer for the Breckinridge and Meade Chapters to this day. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Evening Star Chapter 131, where she was serving as Worthy Matron upon her death. Mrs. Taylor had many talents, but especially loved to sew, bake, and work crossword puzzles. She also loved to make special and unique wedding albums for numerous people that she would give as gifts, so they could have those memories for a lifetime.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gilbert Mills, Sr., and Lewis Porter Taylor; her granddaughter, Alicia Mills; her brother, Frank Ditto; and three sisters, Edna Earl Alexander, Bessie Lee Valentine, and Minnie Ruff. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Rev. Lewis Taylor; eight children, Milton (Saundra) Mills, Cathrine Fletcher, Charlie (Tracee) Mills, Lauratta (Paul) Allen, Howard “Andy” Mills, Paula K. Mills, Tommy (Elke) Mills, and Georgia Taylor; 17 grandchildren, Kendra, Rachel, Thomas, Felicia, Curtis, John T., Trena, Regina, Bradley, Dontae “Tae Tae”, Tommy, Jr., Justin, Gilbert, Jr., Jessica, Kwensi, Amber, and Tristin; 20 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her brother, Richard T. “Ike” Ditto, Jr.; her sister, Shirley Ann Stone; and her special nephew, Charles “Chucky” Valentine.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Zion Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Jade McQueary officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, and from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday. O.E.S. Funeral Rites will be held on Friday evening at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Zion Grove Baptist Church.
