Marshall Dean Myers

Dr. Marshall Dean Myers went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on August 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Marshall was born on December 4, 1943, in Platteville, Wisconsin. Throughout his distinguished academic career, he earned multiple degrees, culminating in a Doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Louisville.

Dr. Myers dedicated more than 50 years to education. He served as a professor at Texas Tech University and Kentucky Wesleyan College before completing his career at Eastern Kentucky University, where he retired after decades of teaching and inspiring students.

In his later years, Marshall served as President of the Civil War Roundtable, a role that reflected his lifelong passion for history. He especially enjoyed reading and writing and had a deep fascination with the Civil War and President Abraham Lincoln. Throughout his historic career, he published more than 300 poems, numerous magazine articles, and six books.

Marshall also enjoyed watching golf and was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, Kansas City Chiefs, and Cincinnati Reds. Yet, above all his academic accomplishments and many interests, his greatest joy and love was his family. They were the center of his life and his greatest legacy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarice and Carol Jane, and his baby brother, John Cushman.

Marshall leaves behind his sister, Janet (Jerry); brothers, Rick (Libby) and Joe (Sherry); his loving wife, Linda; and his two daughters, Mitzi Myers and Marti Reed (Todd).

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jarrod, Matthew, Ryan, Kurt (Caroline), and Collin; and his great-grandchildren, Eli, Will, Julia, and Brooklin. And many nieces and nephews.

Marshall leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, learning, scholarship, and devotion to his family. His wisdom, kindness, humor, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Visitation for Marshall will held from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at The Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will immediately follow at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Cap Anderson Cemetery in Brandenburg, KY, with Rev. Seth Miller officiating.
