Man who reported accidentally shooting his wife in Mauckport has now been arrested for murder

On Thursday, July 2 at approximately 9:59 p.m., Harrison County 911 Dispatch received a 911 call from a male reporting an accidental gunshot at a residence on Hillcrest Drive in Mauckport, Harrison County, Indiana.

Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the residence and located an adult female with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as 40 year old Sara M. Lang.

The 911 caller was identified as the victim’s husband, 32 year old Stephen Ray Lang, who has been arrested in connection with this incident.

Stephen Ray Lang has been preliminarily charged with Murder, Domestic Battery, Intimidation, and Pointing a Firearm.

Investigators determined that a 9mm semi-automatic handgun was used in the shooting. Two juvenile children, a 4-year-old female and a 14-year-old male, were present at the residence at the time of the incident.

An autopsy will be performed as Harrison County Detectives, and the Harrison County Coroner continue their investigation.
