Leona Montgomery Lorton

Leona May Montgomery Lorton, age 91, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Kensington Nursing and Rehab in Elizabethtown, KY.

She was born on April 19, 1934, on the Gaines Farm in Buck Grove, KY, daughter of the late Elbridge Gerry Gaines and Leona May McNeil. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Owen Montgomery; second husband, Brad Lorton; and siblings, Ebb Gaines, Jr., Mary Muter, Nancy Crutcher, Betty Bennett, and George Robert Gaines.

Leona, lovingly called “Lonie”, attended Meade County Schools and was a lifelong member of the Buck Grove Baptist Church. She poured her heart into her work there, blessing the congregation with her beautiful singing voice in the church choir for most of her life. Lonie was woman of amazing faith and the heart of her family, and she shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example, showing everyone around her what it meant to be truly loved and cared for. Her family was always her priority, and she put them above all else. She was a devoted wife, a loving grandma and great-grandma, and a dear friend to all that were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her children, Ronald Owen (Sheri) Montgomery of Brazil, IN, Lee Ann (John) McCoy of Buck Grove, KY, and Nancy Sue (Steve) Orr of Buck Grove, KY; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and church family.

Visitation will be held at the Buck Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 4-8:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. David Campbell officiating. Private burial will follow in Buck Grove Cemetery next to her husband, Owen.
