George Edward Shelman, Jr.

George Edward “Track” Shelman, Jr, age 96 of Union Star, KY passed away at home on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

He was born on September 9, 1928 in Tell City, Indiana.  Son of the late Martha Johnson Haynes and George Edward Shelman, Sr. Along with his parents Track was preceded in death by his son, George Michael Shelman and infant grandson, Klay Michael Mattingly.

Track was a lifelong farmer. He was the community mechanic who everyone could go to for help.  A craftsman who could make just about anything, he made guns, and helicopters just to name a couple.  He had a photographic memory and could recall amazing facts and information about almost anything.  He loved all things on the farm but took a special interest in black powder guns.

He is survived by his sons, William Edward “Eddie” (Bev) Shelman of Union Star and Jack (John Greenwell) Shelman of Cox’s Creek; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.  

Visitation will be held at the Alexander Funeral home in Irvington on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 4-8:00 P.M. EDT and after 9:00 A.M. Saturday.

Funeral Services will be held at the Alexander Funeral Home on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM. EDT with Bro. John M. Bruington officiating. Burial will follow in Bruner Family Cemetery next to his parents.
