Gene Lee Smallwood, Sr. age 69 of Brandenburg, KY passed away May 18, 2025, at Baptist Health Hardin. He was born in Hardin County, KY on February 3, 1956, son of the late Eli and Christine Allgood Smallwood. Gene retired from the Meade County Road Department where he was well liked by his coworkers. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and recently attended Journey Church. Gene enjoyed being outdoors doing yardwork and fishing. His favorite TV shows were westerns, especially Gunsmoke. He loved his grandchildren and time spent with them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Bobbie Jo Voyles and his siblings Marie Hobson and Johnny Smallwood.
Gene is survived by his wife Danita Smallwood of Brandenburg, KY
7 children: Gene Smallwood, Jr. and Regina Walker (Justin) of Hardinsburg, KY; Jason Dale Claycomb (Samantha) of Tell City, IN; Tammy Lou Nash of Radcliff, KY; Derrick Barker (Shenea) of Illinois; Destiny Barker (Andy) of Irvington, KY and DeLicia Johnson (Keda) of Radcliff, KY
27 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren
3 brothers: Jesse Smallwood (Ollie) of Custer, KY; Junior Ray Smallwood of Louisville, KY and Jamie Allgood of LaGrange, KY
4 sisters: Pearl Smallwood and Diana Fentress of Big Clifty, KY; Carolyn Stallings of Sample, KY and Karen Allgood
Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11 AM with burial in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, 4 – 8 PM and Friday after 8:30 AM. All times are central.
