Edwin Leon Hoskinson

Edwin Leon Hoskinson, age 91 passed away on December 6, 2023 at University of Michigan Health-West in Wyoming, Michigan. 


Leon was born in Custer, Kentucky to Virgil and Vertie Belle (Carman) Hoskinson on April 11, 1932, the youngest of four children.  When he was four years old the family moved to a farm just west of Brandenburg located along the Ohio River and Battletown Road.  He graduated from Meade County High School in 1950 as class valedictorian and was active in FFA, most notably the award-winning FFA jug band.  He served in the US Army as company clerk in Germany during the Korean War.  He was employed by Olin Chemicals for over 40 years retiring in 1994.  It was there he met Betty Jean McQuillen.  They were married on June 23, 1956 and settled on a corner of the family farm. He was very active in Boy Scout Troop 150 and the Meade County Band Boosters during his sons’ school years, and was a long-time member, treasurer, and deacon at First Baptist Church Brandenburg.  He was an avid University of Louisville basketball fan and a season ticket holder for many years.  He and Betty had resided in Wyoming, Michigan the past year and a half.


Leon was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Vertie Belle, two sisters Louise (Nick) Strafacci, Doris (Howard) Gruver, and one brother Ronald (Florence) Hoskinson.


He is survived by his wife of 67 years Betty, two sons Eric (Sue) Hoskinson and Edwin (Martha) Hoskinson, three grandchildren Hannah, Robbie, and Landon, three nieces, and two nephews. 


Visitation will be held Friday, December 15th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 16th from Noon to 1 p.m. at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home in Brandenburg, KY. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16th at 1 p.m. at the funeral home officiated by Sherman Ramsey.  A private graveside service will follow the service.
