Al "Butch" Sutherland

Al “Butch” Sutherland, 80, of English, Indiana, died Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his home near English.  He was born December 1, 1943, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Oscar and Frances A. Grubbs Sutherland.  He was a retired Indiana State Police trooper, was formerly employed at Exide/Daramic and at Walgreen’s both in Corydon, was a plumber and licensed electrician and the former owner of Sutherland Electric, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Abby Leigh Sutherland; his brothers, Hollis, Thomas and Danny Sutherland; and his sister, Joyce Beard.

 

Survivors include his sons, Dudley Sutherland (Alisa) and Josh Sutherland (Rickey Gunther); his daughters, Angela Sutherland and Alisa Lieber (Anthony); his brothers, Virgil Sutherland (Jean), Darrell Sutherland (Shirley), and Keith Sutherland (Barbara); his grandchildren, Bradley, Hannah, Grace and Ally Sutherland, and Jesse and Aaron Lieber; and his great grandchildren, Brooke and Amelia Sutherland.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.  Rev. Webster Oglesby will officiate.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

 

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
