Work begins to convert Lady Wave's softball field from grass to turf

Workers remove dirt from the softball field at Meade-Olin Park where the Lady Waves play their home games.

With softball season right around the corner, work has finally begun to convert the softball field used by the Meade County High School Softball Program, Elaina Dix Field, at Meade-Olin Park from grass to turf. Crews began the dirt work today to prepare the surface for installing the turf.

The Meade County School District leases the fields used for both the baseball and softball programs at Meade-Olin Park from the Meade County Fiscal Court. The projected $263,000 pricetag for the turf softball field project will be split 50/50 between the fiscal court and the school district.

The project is slated to be completed by March 1 in order not to interfere with the softball season, but weather delays may continue to hinder that targeted date, depending on what February has in store.
