The Meade County High School Archery team headed to Lexington Tuesday with success on their mind at the 2026 Kentucky High School Archery State Finals, and by the time the all the arrows had flown and the dust had settled, a State Championship trophy would join the team on their bus ride back home that evening.
On the boys side, the Green Wave team would tally a total score of 2,000 points with an X-count (the number of arrows that hit the center "X" ring on a target) of 132. Their team score would edge out second place Harrison County by 8 points to make the Green Waves the 2026 Kentucky State Champions.

Individually, the boys team was led by Andrew Stith. Stith would place second, individually, only trailing first place by a single point. His final score was 295 point with an X-count of 25. Colin McCormick tied for 10th place with 291 points and an X-count of 22. Riley Ramp tied for 45th place with a score of 285 and X-count of 18. Jake Hobbs tied for 57th place with a score of 284 and X-count of 17. William Shaffer tied for 63rd place with 283 points and an X-count of 20. And Ethan Hendley tied for 73rd place with a score of 282 and an X-count of 19.
On the girls side, the Lady Wave team finished with a Top 10 finish in the state, placing 9th overall with a score of 1943 points and an X-count of 98. They were led by Maddison Puckett, who finished 19th with a score of 286 and an X-count of 19. Mackenzie Shaffer tied for 60th with a score of 278 and an X-count of 17. Alyssa Fleming also tied for 60th place with a score of 278 and an X-count of 12.
The Meade County Archery team returned home with a police escort waiting for them at the county line to lead them home in true championship style.
