Sharon Lynn Melton Halbert Sharpe, age 72, of Brandenburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home on March 31, 2026. She was born on August 31, 1953, in Corydon, Indiana, to the late Woodie Melton, Jr. and Bonnie Jordan Melton. She passed away following a long and courageous journey after being diagnosed in 1996 with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.

Sharon spent her early childhood in Laconia, Indiana, on the Melton family farm until 1960, when her family relocated to Brandenburg, Kentucky, where her father was employed by Olin Chemicals. She loved Brandenburg and often spoke fondly about growing up on High Street. In 1964, she was baptized following Vacation Bible School at Phillips Memorial Baptist Church by Brother David Bratcher. She remained a devoted member of the church—now First Baptist Church—throughout her life, faithfully serving in many capacities, including managing and volunteering in the Welcome Center. Sharon deeply loved her church and her church family.

Sharon graduated from Meade County High School in 1971 and began her working career at the Meade County Courthouse under Mr. Floyd Thompson.  After marrying in 1972, she was blessed with daughters, Kristin and Lauren, and she lovingly carried the memory of two other children, Heather and Brett, who passed away at birth.

In 1985, Sharon achieved a long-standing goal by graduating from nursing school at Elizabethtown Community College. As a Registered Nurse, she began her nursing career at Hardin Memorial Hospital, where she served with compassion and dedication from 1985 until her retirement in 2010. Sharon was known as a skilled and caring nurse who mentored and trained many students and new nurses throughout her career.

Outside of her professional life, Sharon was a passionate fan of the University of Louisville and proudly supported the Cardinals. She enjoyed watching games, and even traveled to Madison Square Garden to cheer them on during their 2013 NCAA Championship run. She also loved staying connected and talking with friends on social media, which brought her great joy.

Sharon had a special talent for creating beautiful crocheted items, which she lovingly made for family, friends, and others in the community. She was a proud member of the Meade County Homemakers and enjoyed participating in the Homemakers Holiday Bazaar each year, where she sold her handcrafted crocheted pieces.

Sharon is survived by her children, Kristin (BJ) Hibbard and Lauren (Jonathan) Fox; her beloved grandchildren, Ashlyn Fox, Addison Hibbard, and Landen Fox; her siblings, Jimmy Melton and Rhonda Melton Allen; several cherished nieces and nephews including Jaime Allen, Kyle Allen, Mark Haynes, and Jeff Haynes; and two treasured aunts, Shirley Faith and Susie (Larry) Schmidt, along with numerous cousins and other family members.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, her dedication to her family, and her service to others. Sharon’s legacy of love, compassion, and faith will live on in all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at the Bruington Jenkins Sturgeon Funeral Home on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 12:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. It will continue Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Brandenburg.

Funeral Services will be held from the chapel of the First Baptist Church (149 Lawrence St, Brandenburg, KY 40108) on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Cap Anderson Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alpha-1 Foundation or to First Baptist Church Special Needs Ministry of which she was a proud supporter.
