SFC (Ret.) Joseph Emmett “Joe” Greer, Jr., passed away on his 89th birthday, May 9, 2025, at Radcliff Veterans Center in Radcliff, KY. Joe was born on May 9, 1936, the son of Joseph Emmett, Sr. and Mamie Millholland Greer.

Joe proudly served as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, earning a bronze star. He retired from the Army and then continued his service as a Commonwealth Detective and former Brandenburg Chief of Police. He then served as Meade County Sheriff until his retirement in 2003. Joe was a member of Harrison Lodge 122 F.&A.M., Order of the Eastern Star Vine Grove Chapter and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, JoAnn Greer; four sisters, Mary Ruth Waters, Edith Kathryn Humphrey, Betty Jean Barger and Margaret Adkisson; and his brother, Herman Edwin Greer. He is survived by his son, Kenneth Ray (Deborah) Greer; three grandchildren, Brittney (Cameron) Debity, Cory Love and Kendal Greer; two great grandchildren, Knox and Nash Debity; three sisters, Martha Greer, Dorothy Sermersheim and JoAnn Willett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Mullins officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Cap Anderson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday and from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday. Masonic Funeral Rites will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday evening. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kosair for Kids.
