Rosie Gertrude Abell

Ms. Rosie Gertrude Abell, age 68, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at UofL Jewish Hospital. Ms. Abell was born on February 16, 1958, the daughter of James Franklin Payne and Ruby Frances (Ditto) Abell.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Ja’mari Dotson Abell; a brother, Charles K. Ditto; and two sisters, Annie M. Welch and Minnie Payne. She is survived by three children, Shaunetane (Henry) Hazley, Joe Lydell Dotson, Jr. and Rondell Lamont Dotson Abell, Sr. (Erin); nine grandchildren, Henry Montez Hazley, Jr., Alexianna S.R. Hazley, Yasir Starks, Yamir Starks, Kaleigh McGinty, Cheyenne Dotson, Ceianna Dotson, Rondell Lamont Dotson Abell, Jr. and Lorenzo McGinty; three great grandchildren, Antonio M. Hubbard, Aurora R. Hubbard and Ares D. Hubbard; seven siblings, George “Pete” Abell, Nancy Young, Dorothy Abell, Joe Abell, Randall Abell, Jerry Shacklett, Jenny Payne; and her life partner, Darren Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
