Ronald “Ron” Leroy Tennyson, 78, passed away peacefully in his home on January 12, 2026.
Ron was born on August 20, 1947, in Greenville, South Carolina. He lived a life defined by service, leadership, and deep love for his family.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring after 20 years of honorable service. Following his military career, Ron embarked on an exceptional civilian career in the private aviation industry with Stevens Aviation. He served as General Manager of the Louisville, Kentucky, and later the Dayton, Ohio branches, dedicating more than 27 years of combined service. Throughout his tenure, he was widely respected for his leadership and vision and received numerous honors and professional recognitions, including General Manager of the Year.
Ron had a lifelong passion for motorsports, especially NASCAR and NHRA, and found great joy in music, spending countless hours playing his guitar. Above all else, he cherished time with his family, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marla Lucille Tennyson (2016); his father, Halvor Leroy Tennyson (1989); his mother, Faye Miranda Watson Tennyson (1999); and his brother, Jack Tennyson (2013). He was also preceded in death by his beloved pet cat, Miss Calico (2025).
Ron is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Cora Tennyson; his granddaughter and her husband, Jordan and Michael Carter; his great-grandchildren, Evea Grace Carter and Elijah Wade Carter; his sister and brother-in-law, Shari and Dannie Leonard; and countless friends whose lives he touched throughout the years. He is also survived by his cherished cat companion, Dolly.
A public memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central (2501 N Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, KY 40160) followed by the U.S. Army Honor Guard with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers in Ron’s memory (2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306).
Ron will be remembered for his strength, integrity, leadership, love of music and speed, and most of all, his unwavering devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
