Pat Bowen, age 81 of Brandenburg, KY passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, KY.  Pat was born July 5, 1943 in Evanston, IL and got to Kentucky as soon as she could in 1966.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Bowen of Brandenburg; sons, Don (Jeanette) Metzner, John Metzner and Alan (Suzy) Reighard; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was a public health dental hygienist (aka) Tooth Fairy in Berlin Germany and Fort Knox for 20 years, conducted elementary school dental education programs in Larue and Meade Counties in the mid-90’s, was a reporter and editor for the Meade County Messenger for 6 years, and was a volunteer reading coach at West Point Elementary School for 13 years.  She was an adjunct professor in Dental Public Health for the U of L Dental Hygiene Program at Elizabethtown for 2 years and for the General Dentistry and Orthodontic Residency programs at Fort Knox for 16 years.

She and her husband loved traveling, snorkeling, and having family vacations during her 50’s to 70’s.  They lived in Elizabethtown for 20 years and over 30 years in Doe Valley in their retirement home designed by Pat.

They rescued small senior dogs for years, and over the years had 12 cats who volunteered to stay with them.  She loved their cats and dogs fiercely, often saying she preferred them to people.  She enjoyed reading, living in the woods, and bird watching.  She was a grateful member of the Al-Anon Family Groups since 2006 and held several service positions over the years.

She chose cremation and the service will be private.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to Pets in Need Society “PINS”, P.O. Box 522, Brandenburg, KY 40108 or Al-Anon.
