Mike Gibson

Mr. Mike Gibson, age 80, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at his residence in Meade County. Mike was born on August 5, 1944, the son of the late Albert Lee and Norma Harlan Gibson in Greenville, KY.

He graduated from Indiana’s Georgetown High School in 1962 where he was a basketball super-star and loved to brag that he broke about every record in the school’s basketball history. Mike served this great nation in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1967 on the USS Albany, a guided missile cruiser, CG-10. He returned home in 1967 and started a career with International Harvester in Louisville, KY. He then retired from NAVISTAR International, in Springfield, OH in 1998. A closing of the Louisville plant caused a temporary career change to bus owner and contracting a route with North Harrison school district. His many hobbies included farming, hunting and fishing.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Anthony; and three brothers, Albert, Tommy and Garry “Lip”. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Cheryl Darnell Gibson; a son, Hank (Jobina) Blair; three daughters, Jeannie (Tim) Ropple, Tammy Blair (Jim) Behagg and Melodi Blair (Wayne) Tucker; 15 grandchildren, Tyler Blair, Cameron Blair, Griffin Blair, Sean Breeds, Tyler Breeds, Kristi Book, Michael Book, Miranda Whelan, Summer Scott, Tanner Whelan, Logan Behagg, Jordon Phillips, Olivia Wagner, Dakota Velazquez and Dylan Tucker; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Dottie Gibson and Pam Gibson; and several nieces and nephews. He will definitely be missed!

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the chapel of Hager Funeral Home with Wallace Fuller officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Rock Haven Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Sunday.
