Despite a few patches of cooler weather, this summer in Kentucky has been hot as usual, and one of the many challenges in this intense heat is often the cost associated with cooling a home. Now through September 11th, Kentucky Community Action is helping with that cost with the LIHEAP Summer Subsidy program.

The LIHEAP Summer Subsidy runs August 3rd through September 11th, 2026 and eligible Kentuckians will receive a one-time electric benefit paid directly to the customer's utility company. Eligibility is based on income and applications are accepted on a first come, first-served basis. To qualify, households must have an income up to and including 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. There is, however, no disconnect notice, past-due bill, or eviction notice required to apply.

Contact your local community action office to learn more and begin the application process. The Meade County Community Action Office is located 496 East Broadway Street in Brandenburg and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. You can also call the Meade County Community Action office at 270-422-2545 or the statewide hotline at 1-800-456-3452.
