Interview With Louisville’s very own: Daylin Jarvis

Updated: Dec 13, 2023

If you’re at all familiar with my show The Weekend Vibe on WMMG you might know I frequently help promote and expose local talent; In the 4 hours I’m on air I play their newest or upcoming tracks, set up LIVE performances, & interview them for you, the listeners and now: the readers! This time around we promoted an extremely talented kid from The Ville and his name is Daylin Jarvis! An up-and-coming Pop-Punk ICON, Daylin offers an electrifying blend of the new wave Pop sound with the introspective lyrical content of post-grunge with his very own vibe naturally fused in. Daylin generously offered up his newest track, ‘Best of Me’, to be featured on the show and it absolutely blew up. Not only does Daylin bring a trendy style & phenomenal vocals to this melancholic masterpiece about heartbreak, but he also got the legendary vocalist: Kellin Quinn from the band ‘Sleeping With Sirens’ to feature on the track! These 2 together on a song is the strongest blend of raw talent we never knew we needed. ‘Best of Me’ got so many positive reactions on the show, it was only natural to interview Daylin himself. If you wish to know more about this local artist, then look no further! Daylin and I talk inspiration, creative process, & even offers advice to fans dealing with losing a lover and how to cope. Check it out! At the Disco, blackbear, YUNGBLUD, or any other pop punk icon from the early 2000s. I’d say 2023 was a year of learning and growth for me. Getting to spend time with people who understand who they are and know what they want in life. It made me realize that the people who inspire me the most are actually the people I have around me. * Q: When did music become your passion? *A: Music has lingered around me all my life. My parents always told me I could sing before I learned to talk. Makes since because more than half of my childhood was spent touring around the eastern part of the U.S with my grandpa (Kenny Jarvis) singing at square dances. He retired when I was 12. From that age to about 15 years old I had a long break where I wasn’t even thinking about music. I’d constantly sing around the house but, nothing serious. I think what really sparked my passion was on my 16th birthday I asked my parents to book me studio time. Instead, they surprised me with a fully decked out studio in my room. It seems like from that day forward everything started falling into place. * Q: If you could work with one artist/band, living or dead, who would it be? *A: There are so many talented artists in the world and I’m sure my answer will change within time. Obviously, we got to put Brendon Urie, of Panic! At The Disco, at number one because he was a huge part of my childhood. If we are talking dead, then probably Michael Jackson. His talent was unmatched. Even having his approval would be mind blowing. *Q: Do you have any support systems for your pursuit into the music industry? *A: I’ve been incredibly lucky to have so much support from my family and friends. It truly doesn’t go unnoticed. I think my parents were a little skeptical about it in the beginning. They knew I could sing but I had to prove myself and take it a little more serious. I’m a few years into the scene now and they couldn’t be prouder. *Q: How’d you get Sleeping With Sirens Kellin Quinn to be a feature on your latest track, ‘Best Of Me’? *A: Nick Stafford (Sleeping with Sirens Videographer) shot my first ever music video for “BREAK THE SILENCE”. We became good friends, and I would always stay at his house. One day he asked if I wanted to do a song with Kellin. I was a little baffled and in disbelief at first but, of course, I said yes. But at the time, I didn’t have a song ready to send. Fast forward 6 months later, I had one that fit his voice perfectly. So, I reach out to him and within like 20 minutes he responds “I love this dude! Let’s do it”. And the rest is history. *Q: On the track ‘Best Of Me’ the lyrics describe heartbreak & unfaithfulness. What would you say to any fans dealing with a bad break up? *A: First, I’m sorry you have to deal with that. Just know you are loved by me. Obviously, you can tell by the song I’ve experienced heartbreak and betrayal first hand. A few things that helped cure the sadness for me were getting out of the house and keeping my mind occupied. Go do something that lets you be you. For me it was music. I get to let all my emotions fly out of me when I write. It’s like therapy. So, find your therapy. I know it can be easier said than done. But once it’s found you’re at peace. *Q: How has your creative process evolved & how do you create music today? *A: Prior to this year, I would always find myself picking a topic to write about. And I think that lead to me having a lot of writer's block and lacking creativity in general. It wasn’t until earlier this year when I met my boy Ryan Rasmussen that really changed my whole perspective on writing. He taught me to write whatever was on my mind in that given moment and 9/10 the song was written within an hour and ended up being a hit. *Q: How would you describe your music in a few words? *A: Unpredictable, passionate, made with love. *Q: If you could give younger you any singing, writing, or over-all music production advice, what would you say? *A: Just keep doing what you’re doing. Everything will fall into place. Trust Me. *Q: What’s next for you? Any EPs, Albums, live shows, etc? *A: I’m releasing a 5 track EP at the beginning of 2024 and then I’m going to shift into album mode. I’m predicting 2024 is going to be a big year with lots of changes happening. That’s all I can say for now. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There you have it, beautiful people, a great interview with an impressive artist!
