Fred H Smith

Fred H. Smith, age 84, of Webster, KY, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, KY.

He was born on August 12, 1941, in Lodiburg, KY, son of the late Everett Wayne Smith and Reba Frances Miller. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ellen Smith; son, Craig Smith; grandson, Jody Neil Smith; and brothers, Wayne and Barry Smith.

Fred spent his life working as a farmer. He enjoyed taking care of his fields, tending to his cattle, and spending time outdoors. He loved his friends and would spend his mornings with them drinking coffee, laughing, and telling stories at Green Valley or J C’s. He was a lifelong member of the Raymond Baptist Church and was a part of their softball team for several years; you could always hear him cheering from 3rd base. He was a constant encourager, a great teacher, and a loyal friend. Fred had a huge heart and truly cared for others; he would go to the Stockyards to buy and sell cattle for people that needed help, he gave selflessly, and he protected those he cared for. Above all else, he adored his family. He was a loving dad, granddad, great-granddad, uncle, and friend to all, and will be dearly missed by all those who came to know him.

He is survived by his children, Neil Smith of Webster, KY; Lois Gail (Tom) Duke of Irvington, KY; sisters, Margaret Gail (Bennie) Smith and Peggy Lois (Larry) Stull; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Smith; grandchildren, Craig (Lydia) Claycomb, Mary Beth Smith, Reba Kathryn “Katie” Smith, Briley Neil, and Jaxon Kade; 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and church family.

Visitation will be held at the Alexander Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:00-2:00 P.M. EDT.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of the funeral home on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. EDT with Bro. Nathan Garnett officiating. Burial will follow in the Raymond Baptist Church cemetery.
