Benjamin Christopher Smith, Jr., age 81, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Baptist Health Floyd, New Albany, IN.
He was born on April 17, 1944, in Guston, KY, son of the late Benjamin Christopher Smith, Sr. and Christine Basham Smith. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Verna Phillips; brothers in-law, Wayne and Barry Smith; and sister in-law, Henrietta Smith.
Benjamin graduated from Meade County High School in 1962 and served as a drill sergeant in the U.S. Army after he was drafted in 1966. He retired from Ford Motor Company after 40 years. Benjamin was very active in the community and was a member of New Highland Baptist Church. He was a KHSAA certified umpire for softball and volleyball games, and loved to travel with the teams. His love for sports was prominent with his involvement in bowling and softball, where he managed teams and played in several leagues and tournaments throughout his lifetime. He also played in chess tournaments and loved card games. Benjamin was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Smith; son, Kelly Smith and his wife, Stephanie Smith; brother, Randy (Nancy) Smith; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 3-7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Nathan Garnett officiating. Burial will follow in Raymond Baptist Church cemetery, Webster, KY.
