The Meade County Green Wave Baseball team rolled to the 3rd Region Baseball Championship Wednesday night in a barn burning extra inning showdown against district rival Breckinridge County. The Tigers swept the Green Waves during the regular season and won again last week squeaking out a 2-1 victory for the District Championship.

The tide would change for the Waves in the Region Championship, though. Meade took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th inning, when Aidan Bratcher crossed the plate. Bratcher went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and a run. The Tigers would not go down without a fight, scoring the game tying run in the bottom of the final inning with two outs. The showdown would go scoreless for the first two extra innings. That would all change in the top of the 10th inning when Austin Stansbury blasted a hit that would score Lucas Hail to give the Green Waves a 2 to 1 lead. Stansbury also pitched the first nine innings of the game only giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run while fanning 5 Tigers for strikeouts. Jeffrey Johnson would come on in relief for Stansbury in the bottom of the 10th inning and five pitches later the Green Wave defense would turn a double play on the Tigers to end the game and seal the win.

Meade County is the 2025 3rd Region Champion and state tournament bound. They will face Trinity in the first round of the State Tournament on June 5 at Kentucky Proud Park at the University of Kentucky.
