Just as road conditions clear up from the previous round of wintry weather across the area earlier in the week, transportation officials in Kentucky are preparing for another round Thursday evening and Friday.
District 4 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which covers nearly 3,000 miles of roads across eleven counties, including Meade, Breckinridge and Hardin Counties, released a statement late Wednesday night regarding their preparation for the incoming weather.
"The setup of this weather event is different from the previous one," the statement read. "Any snow accumulation is expected to be heavier and wetter at the onset and may be preceded by rain or a wintery mix across portions of the district."
The statement went on to explain that temperatures will be warmer Thursday then drop as we go into the weekend, and crews will be working accordingly across the district. The district reminds motorists that traffic impacts may vary over short distances late Thursday through Friday.
A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect at noon Eastern Time Thursday and stays in effect until 7:00pm Eastern Time Friday evening. Expect the possibility of a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain beginning Thursday afternoon with a short period of freezing drizzle Thursday evening. Widespread light to moderate snow is expected late Thursday night and through the day on Friday. Localized snow accumulation amounts across the area could vary from 1 to 3 inches, with a small glaze of icing possible as well.
This winter weather event will impact areas in Southern Indiana and the northern half of Kentucky.
