John A. Thornhill

John A. Thornhill, age 79, of Brandenburg, KY, passed away on November 22, 2025 at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, KY surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born on July 30, 1946, son of the late Allie John Thornhill and Mary “Evelyn” Benham Thornhill. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Thornhill.

Johnny served in the U.S. Army and retired after an extensive civil service career at Fort Knox. He loved to travel, eat good food as well as enjoy fine bourbon. He had a passion for history; including genealogy, antique furniture, and the Civil War. Johnny also had a love for cars of the past and was in the process of restoring his beloved 1970 Chevelle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Louise; three sisters, Judy (Randy) Pennington, Kathy (Stephen) Lambert, and Rosemary (Bradley) Johnston; two daughters, Melissa (Jason) Phillips and Heather (Thomas) Stafford. He will be deeply missed by his six granddaughters, who affectionately called him “Papaw” and his great-granddaughter, Maggie. Johnny’s memory will live on through his family, whose lives have been enriched by his unwavering love and support.    

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00P.M. and after 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral home at 11:00A.M. with Father Terry Johnston officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Brandenburg Southern Baptist Church Cemetery.
