Jenny Stewart Poppell

Virginia “Jenny” Murphy Stewart Poppell, age 67, of Louisville, KY, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Norton’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 21, 1957, in Louisville, KY, daughter of the late William Laverne Murphy and Grace Irene Hundley Murphy. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne L. Stewart.

Jenny retired as a food technician from Kellogg’s (Mother’s Cookies). She raised her family in Battletown and was formerly a member of the Cold Springs Baptist Church before moving to Louisville and becoming a member of Southeast Christian. She was faithful to her church no matter the location. Jenny was so many wonderful things. She truly loved the Lord and led by example in her daily life. She was selfless, kind, generous, and she loved with her entire heart. She was supportive of her family and she cherished each of them dearly. Jenny was a devoted wife, mother, sister, Mamaw, and Grammy, and will be missed beyond measure.

She is survived by her husband, James R. Poppell; children, Joseph W. Stewart and Amber Stewart; siblings, William (Diane) Murphy, Donna (Dale) Browning, Linda Shupe, Michael Murphy, and her twin sister, Vickie (John) Florence; grandchildren, Madissyn, Olivia, Joseph, Cayla, and Asher; great-grandchild, Knox; and her sweet fur-baby, Venice.

Visitation will be held at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. EDT and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. John Florence officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.
