On January 24, the MCHS Wrestling team hosted the Meade County Senior Nigh Duals at the MCHS Freshman Academy gymnasium. Five Green Wave seniors, including Payton Durbin, Trae McCormack, Elijah St. John, Talon McCormack and Tyler Lattin, were honored. The Waves also took on Bethlehem, Bardstown and Nelson County in a series of duals that they swept.
In the Bethlehem matchup, Meade County was victorious with a score of 54 to 15. Thirty points were scored by forfeits when Bethlehem failed to field competitors against Peyton Vowels (106# class), Nolan Link (132#), Payton Durbin (138#), Talon McCormack (190#) and Ty Mathis (285#). Another 24 points were scored by fall/pin by Patrick Durbin (126#), Tyler Lattin (144#), Elijah St. John (157#) and Adam Sanders (165#).
Against Bardstown, Meade County prevailed by a score of 64 to 12. There were 24 points scored by forfeit in that dual by Nolan Link (132#), Adam Sanders (165#), Kingston Jolly (175#), and Talon McCormack (190#). There were 36 points added by fall/pin by Patrick Durbin (126#), Payton Durbing (138#), Tyler Lattin (144#), Payton Connor (150#), Elijah St. John (157#) and Ty Mathis (285#). In the 106# class, Peyton Vowels added another 4 points after a 10-2 major decision.
The Nelson County matchup would prove to be much closer, but the Waves would prevail 42 to 39. All 42 of Meade County's points would come from fall/pins. Peyton Vowels (106#), Patrick Durbin (126#), Nolan Link (132#), Payton Durbin (138#), Tyler Lattin (144#), Payton Connor (150#) and Ty Mathis (285#) would each score 6 points for their team.
KYWCA 3A State Dual Championships
On Saturday, January 27, the MCHS Wrestling team traveled to Tates Creek High School in Lexington for the State Duals. While there the team would face off against Henderson County, Madison Central, Montgomery County and Saint X.
In the Henderson County matchup, Meade Co. would fall short by a score of 28 to 48. Fall/pins would account for 24 of the Waves points scored by Tyler Lattin (150#), Patrick Durbin (126#), Payton Durbin (138#) and Payton Conner (144#). Nolan Link would add 4 points with a 13-0 major decision.
Madison Central would also outscore Meade, 48 to 25. Meade County would score 18 points on fall/pins by Payton Conner (144#), Tyler Lattin (150#) and Ty Mathis (285#). Nolan Link would add 4 points on a 10-2 major decision, and Payton Durbin would add 3 points with a 6-3 decision.
Meade County would take a 51-24 win over Montgomery County. The Waves would score 30 points off of fall/pins by Dylon Jones (113#), Patrick Durbin (126#), Payton Durbin (138#), Tyler Lattin (144#) and Ty Mathis (285#). Peyton Vowels (106#) and Payton Conner (150#) would add 6 points each after forfeits. Another 9 points would come from decisions by Nolan Link (132#) 11-9, Elijah St. John (157#) 6-5, and Tyler McCormack (190#) 6-0.
It would be St. Xavier who would get the upper hand against the Green Waves in their matchup, 48 to 27. Fall/pins would account for 24 points, scored by Daylon Jones (113#), Payton Durbin (138#), Tyler Lattin (144#), and Adam Sanders (165#). Patrick Durbin (126#) would add 3 points with a 9-6 decision.
