Sophia Biddle

Sophia Lillian Biddle, age 86, of Cadiz, KY, formerly of Payneville, KY, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville, KY.

She was born at home in Brown County, WI on October 28, 1939, daughter of the late Theresa Elizabeth “Susie” Durbin Nies and Raymond Ferdinand Nies.  Along with her parents, She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Aloysious Biddle; step-son, William H. Biddle; step-son-in-law, Frank Beasley; brothers, Ferdinand “Fritz” Nies, Earl Nies, Cyril “Cy” Nies, and Norbert “Brownie” Nies; sisters, Theresa “Terry” Pansier, Rosemary “Rosey” Lenss Phillips, and Rita Linzmeier.

Sophia was raised on a dairy farm in Wisconsin.  She came with her father to a funeral in KY.  While attending the funeral in 1969, she tripped over a tombstone and Elmer Biddle caught her! He said he could never get rid of her. They were members of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Cadiz, KY and former members of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Payneville, KY.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Biddle of Cadiz, KY; step-sons, Larry (Diane) Biddle of Cadiz, KY, Doug (Bonnie) Biddle, of Brandenburg, KY and Don, (Lynn) Biddle of Battletown, KY; step-daughters, Wilma Beasley of Brandenburg, KY Shelia (Larry) Butler of Brandenburg, KY, Marilyn (Timmy) Adkisson of Flaherty, KY; step-daughter-in-law, Alice Biddle of Brandenburg, KY; sister-in-law, Joyce Nies of Nevada; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and special friends, Angelia Lax, and Jan and Marsha Petro.

Visitation will be held at the St. Mary Magdalen Church in Payneville, KY, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 10-11:00 A.M. (EDT)

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Payneville, KY, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. (EDT) Father George Illikkal presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery next to her husband ending together where they started back in 1969.
